Embroidered
The traditional achievement patch. Raised thread looks right on a letter jacket, handles bold icons, years and short titles, and lasts for years.

How ordering works
The same five steps on every order, so nothing gets made until you have seen it.
- Order and pay a deposit. Choose size, quantity and backing, upload your artwork and pay 25%, 50% or 100% upfront.
- Free digital mockup within 6 hours. Ask for as many changes as you like.
- Physical sample in 2 to 3 days. We make one real patch so you can check it before the full run.
- Production, about 2 weeks. Starts once the sample is approved and the order is paid in full.
- Free shipping, about 2 weeks. You get a tracking link to follow every stage.
What are achievement patches?
Achievement patches, also called award patches or letter jacket patches, recognize something a student, athlete or member has earned: making a team, placing at a competition, qualifying for state, finishing a season or reaching a milestone year. They are usually sewn onto a letter jacket, team jacket, uniform sleeve or sash, and they are collected over several years.
Most achievement patches are embroidered. Embroidery has raised texture that looks right on a jacket, holds up to years of wear and handles the bold shapes, years and short titles these patches use. If your design has very small lettering, such as a long event name, we flag it on your mockup and suggest a slightly larger size or a woven patch, which holds fine text better.

- Sew-on (included): best for letter jackets. Wool and leather do not hold iron-on adhesive well, and sewn patches last for years.
- Iron-on (+$0.15): fine for cotton or poly-cotton jackets, sashes and bags. Add a few stitches around the edge for long-term wear.
- Velcro / hook and loop (+$0.56): for uniforms where patches get swapped between seasons.

A note on chenille: traditional varsity letters are often chenille, the fuzzy towel-like texture. Legion Patches does not make chenille. We make the embroidered patches that usually go around the letter: event icons, years, titles and qualifier patches.

Order before the banquet
Most achievement patches are needed by a set date, such as an awards banquet, the end of a season or graduation. Allow about 5 weeks from order to delivery: a free mockup within 6 hours, a physical sample in 2 to 3 days, about 2 weeks of production after you approve the sample, then about 2 weeks of free shipping.

What is the difference between achievement patches and award patches?
They are the same thing. Schools usually say achievement or letter jacket patches, while clubs and companies often say award patches. We make both the same way, as custom embroidered patches from your design.
Do you make UIL patches?
We make custom embroidered patches that schools, booster clubs and families order for UIL academic, music and athletic events. We are not affiliated with UIL, so we make your design, not an official UIL product. Send us the event, year and any placement text and we will mock it up.
What is the minimum order?
25 pieces per design. The price per patch drops as quantity goes up, so ordering the patches every member receives in larger amounts saves money.
Can I sew achievement patches on a wool letter jacket?
Yes. Sew-on is the best choice for wool and leather. It is included at no extra cost and lasts for years. Iron-on adhesive does not bond well to wool or leather.
Can you match our school colors?
Yes. Send your school colors or Pantone (PMS) codes and we match them to the closest thread colors. Your mockup lists the thread colors, the physical sample shows the real colors before production, and we record the thread codes so every reorder matches.
How long does an achievement patch order take?
About 5 weeks from order to delivery: mockup within 6 hours, sample in 2 to 3 days, about 2 weeks of production and about 2 weeks of shipping. Order early if you have a banquet date.
