What are embroidered patches?
Embroidered patches are stitched in thread on a twill base, so the design has raised texture you can see and feel. It is the classic patch look: the one most people picture on a club vest, a department uniform or a team jacket.
Embroidery suits bold shapes, solid colors and clear lettering. Very small text and hairline detail are where it struggles. If your design has those, a woven patch will hold them better, and we will tell you on your mockup if anything is too small to stitch cleanly.

- Free digital mockup within 6 hours. Ask for as many changes as you like.
- Physical sample in 2 to 3 days. We make one real patch so you can check it before the full run.
- Production, about 2 weeks. Starts once the sample is approved and the order is paid in full.
- Free shipping, about 2 weeks. You get a tracking link to follow every stage.
Thread color matching and Pantone (PMS)
Embroidery thread comes in hundreds of fixed colors, so we match each color in your artwork to the closest thread. If you have Pantone (PMS) codes for your logo, send them with your order and we use them as the target. Your free mockup lists the thread colors we plan to use, and the physical sample lets you see the real thread before production.
Screens show color differently, so judge color on the sample, not the screen. Once you approve it, we record the thread codes on your order so every reorder matches the first batch.
Border options: merrowed or cut edge
The border is the finished edge around the patch, and it changes the look and the shapes you can choose.

Embroidery coverage: 50%, 75% or 100%
Coverage is how much of the patch is filled with thread. At 100% coverage the whole surface is stitched and no base fabric shows, which gives the richest, most textured look. At 50% or 75% coverage, part of the twill base shows through as the background, which keeps the patch lighter and more flexible and suits simple designs on a solid background.
Our instant prices already include full coverage, so you never pay extra for it. We choose the coverage that makes your design look best and show it on your mockup, and you can ask for a change at no charge.
Smallest text and detail
Thread has a minimum thickness, so keep text at least about 1/4 inch (6 mm) tall and lines at least about 1/32 inch (1 mm) thick. Smaller lettering can fill in and blur. If your design has very small text, we will flag it on the mockup, suggest a bigger size, or recommend woven patches, which hold detail down to about 1/8 inch. Embroidered patches are the traditional choice for achievement and award patches, because the raised thread looks and feels earned. We make them for schools, clubs and organizations from 25 pieces per design, including:

What is the minimum order for custom embroidered patches?
The minimum is 25 patches. The price per patch drops as the quantity goes up, so check the table above or the quote page for your exact number.
How much do custom embroidered patches cost?
It depends on size, quantity and backing. For example, 100 patches at 3 inches with sew-on backing come to $3.67 each ($367.00 in total). The quote page shows your exact price for any quantity.
Can embroidered patches have small text?
Up to a point. Thread has a minimum thickness, so very small lettering can blur. If your design has tiny text or fine lines, we will flag it on your mockup or suggest a woven patch, which holds detail better.
Which backing should I choose?
Sew-on backing is included. Iron-on adds $0.15 per patch and Velcro (hook and loop) adds $0.56 per patch. Sew-on is the most secure for anything washed often, iron-on is quick on heat-safe fabric, and Velcro lets you swap patches on uniforms and gear.
How long do custom embroidered patches take?
Most orders take about 4 to 5 weeks from order to delivery: a free digital mockup within 6 hours, a physical sample in 2 to 3 days, about 2 weeks of production after you approve the sample, then about 2 weeks of shipping.

What is a merrowed border?
A thick, rolled stitch wrapped around the edge of the patch. It is the classic, strongest edge for round, square and shield shapes. Detailed custom shapes use a heat-cut edge instead.
